Paul Reubens has confirmed that there is indeed a Pee-Wee Herman film in the making and the announcement is very imminent!
Reubens first played the character of Pee-Wee in The Pee-Wee Herman Show, and then later in Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure (1985). CBS later picked up the character in a series titled Pee-Wee’s Playhouse which aired for five seasons before being cancelled in 1990. The last time that the 62-year-old actor portrayed the character was in the 1988 Big Top Pee-Wee film.
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Reubens hinted that there would be a big announcement very soon regarding the supposed sequel to Big Top Pee-Wee, showing his excitement to be returning to the big screen.
“There’s going to be a big announcement any minute now,” Reubens said. “It’s been months and months of being right on the verge of being announced.”
“It’s going to get made shortly after the new year. I wish I could tell you about it right now, because…I mean, it’s amazing,” Reubens continued. “It’s going to be amazing. It think it first got leaked four years ago or so that the movie was going to be made, and ever since then it’s just been stalling and stalling. So I’m really ready for this to happen. But I’m not kidding: It’s very imminent.”
