Paula Patton and Robin Thicke announced earlier this year that they were separating after nine years and a child together, and many wondered if Thicke’s raunchy MTV VMAs performance with Miley Cyrus had anything to do with it. Now, TMZ reports that the singer will be revealing a new song at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards that has very personal meaning behind it, and rumors are spreading that he might be trying to win back his love.
According to the site, the song–titled “Get Her Back”–includes the lyrics “All I wanna do is make it right…I gotta get her, go get her back / I gotta treat her right / I gotta cherish her for life…I should’ve kissed you longer / I should’ve held you stronger / And I’ll wait for forever for you.”
Patton recently gave an interview to Vanity Fair in which she talked about her feelings for Thicke, saying they had shared a lot of firsts together.
“We’ve known each other since we were teenagers. All I can tell you is there’s a deep love there — always was, and always will be. He wasn’t my first kiss. But he was my first lots of other things,” she said.
Patton has been the subject of several of Thicke’s songs and has appeared in his videos, but so far neither have commented on the Billboard Music Awards rumors. Patton is currently filming Warcraft, a movie based on the game series.
“I’ve never been big into video games. But the Warcraft script reads more like a complex, epic novel,” she said.
