Olivia Benson has been spotted in various spots around New York City with BFF Taylor Swift. No, it’s not that Olivia Benson–the Law & Order: SVU character played by the beautiful Mariska Hargitay–although this Olivia Benson is fine-looking, too. This Olivia is Taylor Swift’s Scottish Fold kitten, and she’s been lugging the furry feline around town like a trendy accessory.

Why?

According to Access Hollywood, it’s fear–not on behalf of Swift, but Olivia Benson instead.

“The kitten freaks out about being put in the cat carrier,” Taylor Swift explained. “So I was just like, ‘OK, all right, we’re gonna just do this!'”

“It was like a 10 foot walk from my door to the car!” she added. “What I thought was funny about those pictures is that, like, the cat is looking straight at the cameras!”

Taylor was talking about a shot captured of her–Olivia Benson in tow–as she headed out in an adorable tartan plaid mini, carrying not just the cat–but a gorgeous and understated leather bag.

Olivia Benson isn’t Taylor Swift’s only feline friend. In June, when she was adopted, she joined Meredith Grey. Yes, the three-year-old cat is named after Taylor’s favorite Grey’s Anatomy star. If you see a pattern here, it’s because there is one.

She captioned this Instagram clip, ‘Meredith is in one of her moods.’

“Strong, complex, independent women,” she said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone about what she named her cats. “That’s the theme.”

Taylor does worry about being perceived as one of those ‘crazy cat ladies,’ however.

“I asked around: I was like, ‘Does two cats count as cats?'” she said. “But then I thought, what imaginary guy’s perspective am I thinking about this from? Someone is going to think I’m undateable for a lot of reasons before they think I’m undateable because I have two cats.”

Might this be the start of a rather strange obsession for the Never Ever Getting Back Together singer? Fans will simply have to wait and see. Meanwhile, if Taylor Swift is spotted strolling down Fifth Avenue with both Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey in tow, someone may need to stage an intervention.
