With all of the games highlighted at Nintendo’s big E3 press conference, it’s amazing that a game such as Project P-100 got overlooked for the presentation. Project P-100 is the working title for a game being developed by Platinum Games for Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console. Platinum Games is the developer behind such games as MadWord, Bayonetta, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

According to Nintendo’s website, P-100 takes place in a time when Earth is under attack by aliens. Players must find ordinary citizens around cities and group them up to form powerful heroes that can morph into large weapons or tools. The more citizens players find, the more powerful the morph abilities will be. From the Nintendo website:

Players can use the Wii U GamePad’s touch screen to command heroes such as Bonzai Man, Vending Machine Man and even Toilet Bowl Man. Heroes can also morph into gelatin to guard themselves from enemy attacks.

Players can also use the GamePad to explore areas unseen on the TV screen and solve puzzle elements.

I realize this doesn’t make much sense to read. Luckily, Nintendo has provided an announcement trailer for the title, which shows the “hero” morphing into a hand to either punch an alien robot or turn the crank of a drawbridge. The gameplay looks as crazy as the description sounds, but it also looks incredibly fun and creative. Take a look for yourself:

The game appears to be inspired by Pikmin (a title for which an announcement was also made today), but seems to have more of a combat focus. It will be interesting to see how P-100 utilizes Nintendo’s new Wii U controller to operate all of the on-screen mayhem previewed today.
