Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder are engaged, and fans who look back at their romance can easily see that it clicked from the very start.

E! News revisited their whirlwind courtship (the two only dated for a few months before becoming engaged–and they were living together in Atlanta after just three weeks of dating) and found proof that it was smooth sailing from the beginning.

“They’re so happy,” a source told them of the recent engagement. “They were crazy happy from the start. Their families love each other. It just feels really right.”

Ian Somerhalder was previously linked to his Vampire Diaries costar Nina Dobrev, but when that went south he only had eyes for Nikki Reed. There was a bit of discomfort on set (on Nina Dobrev’s behalf) when the Twilight star would visit him there, but that in no way thwarted the romance.

Nikki Reed was married to American Idol alum Paul McDonald. The two separated in March of 2014 and their divorce was just finalized a couple of weeks ago. It was am amicable split, however, and the two still perform and record music together.

With their respective exes out of the way, Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder had that proverbial green light shining brightly, and urging them to move forward to the next step in their love life. But it seemed pretty romantic even back in the fall. They were first spotted together in public at a farmer’s market. They adopted a puppy together shortly thereafter.

Yes, it was a quick romance, but who says that marriage is where the romance ends? Although Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder have yet to set a wedding date, it’s likely the relationship will continue to be one filled with lots of love.
