TV Land’s sitcom, The Soul Man, starring Niecy Nash and Cedric the Entertainer, was announced to be returning for a third season this spring. Executives at TV Land, Keith Cox and Larry W. Jones, announced the news on Wednesday. Currently, there are 8 episodes scheduled for the third season.

The Soul Man portrays a former soul singer who has now moved to the midwest to pursue the calling of ministry. Reverend Boyce ‘The Voice’ Ballentine (Cedric), and wife Lolli (Nash), relocate from Sin City to St. Louis with Boyce’s brother Stamps (Wesley Jonathan) in tow.

The list of popular stars who made guest appearances last season will be hard to top next season. Nash’s former costar on Reno 911! , Cedric Yarbrough, Jamie Kennedy, and Kim Wayans all had guest spots, as well as many more.

The network waited nearly two months after last year’s ratings were released to announce the good news. In the first two seasons of Soul Man , gains among African-American adults and women in the 25-54 age category rose +103% and +111%, compared to the network’s prime average as a whole.

The Soul Man is produced by some famous comedic professionals, including actor Sean Hayes, who won an Emmy award and six Goldern Globe nominations for his portrayal of Jack McFarland on the NBC comedy, Will and Grace. As well, Hayes’ partner at Hazy Mills Productions, Todd Milliner, and their fellow Hot in Cleveland co-executive producer, Suzanne Martin, also produce Soul Man.

You can also catch Niecy Nash on a new comedy on HBO. Getting On portrays three women working with elderly, and dying, patients at a medical facility set in Long Beach, California. The half-hour comedy can be seen on HBO on Sunday night at 10 p.m.
