Back at San Diego Comic Con, attendees to the Star Wars panel were treated to a ton on new news and a few special reveals. Now, months on from the con, the newly-found blooper footage shown during the panel has finally hit the web. The footage shows cast members messing up lines, props falling apart, and even a couple of special effects flubs.
As good as Han Solo and C3-PO are a cutting the tension in the Star Wars movies, they still remain fairly serious at times – with a totalitarian empire wiping out planets full of people, quasi-religious mysticism weaved throughout, and the fate of an entire galaxy at stake. Taking that into account, it’s especially wonderful to see Gran Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guiness) actually smiling and enjoying their time on-set.
Some of the clips do not have audio, but that doesn’t make the sight of stumbling storm troopers any less silly:
With Star Wars: Episode VII moving toward a 2015 release, interest in the original trilogy will undoubtedly increase in the coming years. It has already been announced that Director J.J. Abrams has gotten several important people involved in the original trilogy to work on the new movie. Composer John Williams will, of course, be back to score the movie, and it was announced just last week that Lawrence Kasdan (co-writer of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) is co-writing the screenplay.
