Yesterday morning, Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder teased the internet with a slight peek at the new Batmobile. In the picture, fans can see the car covered by tarp, and he hints of a bigger reveal “tomorrow,” now today.

Entertainment Weekly columnist Samantha Highfill posed the question: “could this be a hybrid of Tim Burton’s Batmobile and Christopher Nolan’s Tumbler, with just a touch of Joel Schumacher thrown in?”

She continued on by presenting evidence of her Batmobile hybrid theory, “The length and shape of it feels more reminiscent of what we knew with Burton, but the tires look like they might’ve drawn inspiration from Nolan, though I doubt they can twist all around and turn into a Batpod at a moment’s notice.”

ScreenRant columnist Rob Keyes added this about the new Batmobile, “In Tim Burton’s original Batman films, Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne had a comic book inspired, curvy long-form signature car. It was inspired by ’30s Salt Flat Racers and ’50s Sting Rays, augmented with jet and military hardware. It was awesome for its time. Skip forward a decade and a half to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Christian Bale’s caped crusader was given a much beefier machine, more tank than car. It also was awesome for its time. For Batman vs. Superman, the new Batmobile seems to blend elements from both – at least from the limited view teased this morning by director Zack Snyder.”

A few hours after this post was published, Snyder released a closer look at the Batmobile and the first look of Ben Affleck in his new suit.

In the last ten months, the team behind the Batman vs. Superman movie continuously made headlines with their cast decisions. Back in August 2013, Affleck was announced as the new actor to take over the Batman role. Fans of the franchise took to Twitter to voice their concerns, they even started a #BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck trending topic.

In January 2014, Snyder cast Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Batman film and comic book fans were once again not thrilled by the choice.

So it’s a safe bet that this new version of the Batmobile will polarize fans even more.

Besides casting, production on the film has not been a smooth ride. In January, Warner Bros. studio announced that production on the film was delayed. The July 17, 2015 release date was moved to May 6, 2016.

Batman vs. Superman also stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons, and Laurence Fishburne.
