It looks like Netflix’s next international expansion will find the company landing in The Netherlands.
The company announced this move back in June, but without a specific date attached.
Variety quotes sources who say that Netflix will officially launch in The Netherlands on Wednesday, September 11th. They say that Dutch press have been invited to a kick-off party featuring Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and Famke Janssen, who was born in The Netherlands and stars in one of Netflix’s popular original series – Hemlock Grove.
Netflix has yet to make an official announcement, so we don’t really know what the pricing structure will look like – but it’s doubtful that it was deviate too much from the standard Netflix per-month streaming costs.
This marks the 41st country where Netflix is available. Last October, Netflix went on a Scandinavian launch tour – coming to Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. Before that, the streaming service launched in the UK and Ireland, amassing 1 million subscribers in just 7 months. And before, that it came to Latin America and the Caribbean in 2011.
Netflix currently boasts over 37 million streaming subscribers worldwide.
The Netflix Netherlands site is already up and open to signups.
