Netflix just announced the release of what it’s calling its first major update to its television applications since late 2013, when it launched its biggest update ever.
The new update will start or resume a title while display “key information” when you select it.
“We’re letting the content speak for itself by providing a more immersive and cinematic experience that best represents the capabilities and expectations of today’s TVs,” the company says in a blog post. “Video is a rich medium for storytelling and we’ve found bringing video playback into the content selection experience makes it easier to find something great to watch.”
“We work hard to innovate and evolve the Netflix experience so our members can connect with the stories they love with greater ease,” the company says.
The update is beginning a global rollout, which will see it appear on all eligible devices over the coming days. I’m not sure I’d qualify it as “major,” but it is an update.
The company held its Q2 earnings call last week, and announced that it has surpassed 65 million members, with growth driven by international markets and original programming.
