Murder, She Wrote fans were excited to find out that there was going to be a remake of the show. Angela Lansbury however, was not as excited and didn’t take long to express her opinion.
“I think it’s a mistake to call it Murder, She Wrote,” Lansbury said, “because Murder, She Wrote will always be about Cabot Cove and this wonderful group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person.”
Lansbury’s views on the remake may have cause NBC to change their mind about it and the network recently announced that they would not be going forward with the Murder, She Wrote remake, at least for now.
It appears that fans aren’t ready for this type of series and that crime and mystery dramas have evolved into more serious and dark stories, different from those that Jessica Fletcher dealt with in Cabot Cove.
Many Murder, She Wrote fans feel that the problem is the decision to call the new series a remake. A remake makes it seem as if the series will be remade into something that is very close to the original.
Murder, She Wrote could be given a second chance if writers were able to make the stories relate more to modern times with modern crimes being committed and modern mysteries being solved.
While Lansbury may not think it is a good idea to change the basis of the series, it may be the only way the show could stand a chance with today’s viewers.
Would you like to see Murder, She Wrote back on television and do you think it would be better as a remake or changed into a new series?
