  • Michael Vick, of the Philadelphia Eagles, ranks first in Forbes list of the most-disliked NFL players of 2013. The individuals that identify themselves as huge NFL fans like him, but most of the other casual observers still envision the man that he was six years ago. On April 25, 2007, Vick’s role in an interstate dog-fighting ring came to the surface and he was later prosecuted, staying in federal prison for nineteen months. Though he has stayed on track and appears to have significantly changed since his time in prison, the stigma of his crimes continually are attached to Vick, which is signified by the dislike indicated by 53% of the respondents.

The list is based on an E-Poll survey of 1,100 people over the age of thirteen. The latest surveys are produced by E-Poll Market Research, where E-Score measures the public opinion of thousands of celebrities based on “likeability, awareness, confidence, and many other attributes.” The E-Poll only questioned respondents on currently active NFL players whose awareness registered a minimum of 10% with the public.

Not far behind from Vick rests Manti Te’o, of the San Diego Chargers, who is ranked as the second most-disliked player in the NFL, with dislike shown by 48% of the respondents. The girlfriend hoax was published worldwide, which placed immense suspicion upon Te’o, and his supposed underlying motives. “I think this will stay with him until he gets the chance to prove them wrong,” says E-Poll Chief Executive Gerry Philpott.

Next on the list is Ndamukong Suh, of the Detroit Lions, who is disliked by 43% of the respondents. Fans admire tough players, yet despise dirty ones. Just earlier this year, Suh swiftly took his elbow and right-hooked Cardinals Eric Winston in the head, which went unnoticed by officials.

The fourth and fifth most-disliked NFL players are awarded to Ben Roethlisberger, of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Mark Sanchez, of the New York Jets, both disliked by 40% of the respondents. The reasons why Sanchez is in this position are completely different from that of Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger’s image is still associated with past sexual assault accusations, while Sanchez is simply blamed for the Jets downfall last year.

The last five players of the top ten most-disliked NFL players of 2013 are: Jay Cutler, Tony Romo, Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, and Reggie Bush. Of these five players, Tony Romo and Tom Brady are possibly the most surprising. Romo continues to be undervalued because he has yet to make it to the Super Bowl and Brady has won it three times, yet they both are on the Forbes list. The aforementioned fact simply portrays the significance of perception. Romo is disliked for never making it to the Super Bowl, whereas Brady is disliked for making it there “too much”. The results of polls, such as this, highly and solely depend on individual outlooks to create the list, which should usually be taken into consideration.
