Miley Cyrus recently did her first interview post-VMAs and said that all this business about the media blowing up her twerk-filled, tongue-wagging performance is pretty silly.

“I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out so many times,” she said. “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn’t even think about it ’cause that’s just me!”

The former “Hannah Montana” star compared her onstage antics with Robin Thicke to certain stars who have rocked the VMAs stage in the past and weren’t afraid to shock the audience; in fact, she says, that’s the whole point.

“How many times have we seen this play out in pop music? Madonna’s done it, Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance… anyone that performs, that’s what you’re looking for. You’re wanting to make history.”

Cyrus certainly made a place for herself in the annals of MTV history, as the highly-sexualized performance of Thicke’s hit “Blurred Lines” is something that won’t be forgotten for years to come. And while Cyrus says she knew what was going to happen afterward, she’s still a little surprised that everyone is talking about it days later.

“Me and Robin the whole time said, ‘You know we’re about to make history right now.’ What’s amazing is I think now, we’re three days later and people are still talking about it. They’re overthinking it,” she said.

The young star may have been blasted in the media for her performance, but she isn’t letting it stop her from moving on; the singer reportedly slipped out of the MTV after party to record some tracks with Kanye West for her upcoming album, “Bangerz“.
