Miley Cyrus sat down for an interview with Fashion Magazine recently, and the 20-year old pop star opened up about her now-defunct relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth and admitted that at least one of the songs on her new album, “Bangerz”, is about the difficulties they had as a couple. The song, “Drive”, is about that rough time in a relationship when you know you need to cut loose but don’t want to lose everything you’ve built.
“I wrote it while I was working on Valentine’s Day,” she said. “Emotionally it was such a hard time. It is about needing to leave someone but not really want to completely cut yourself off from the relationship. It’s a time when you want to leave but you can’t. It’s also about moving on.”
It seems that Hemsworth has moved on from the relationship, locking lips with Eiza Gonzalez in public recently; but for Cyrus, whose highly-sexualized new image has made headlines for months, may be taking it harder. During a recent performance at the iHeartRadio Festival in Vegas, it was reported that the singer broke down in tears while singing her hit “Wrecking Ball”. As for the controversial video for that song–in which she appears nude and seductively licks a sledgehammer–and the way she seems to have dialed it up to 11 when it comes to her sex appeal, some think she’s acting out because of the breakup. But she says she’s having fun, and thinks everyone overreacted to her performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV VMAs earlier this year.
“I was trying to slap Robin’s ass but no one saw it! Believe me! MTV edited so much. They cut almost everything I did. I’m proud of that performance. I feel like music is really stale right now. I could have guessed what a lot of artists would have done that night. The reaction to what I did has been insane. I think it was a breath of fresh air! For the people that don’t get it, you weren’t meant to,” she said.
