Meta on Tuesday, Sept. 15, launched Meta One, a set of subscription plans that sell expanded AI usage and premium features across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Prices run from $7.99 a month for consumers up to $499 a month for businesses. The plans are meant to help Meta make money from its Muse AI models, TechCrunch reported.

Plans for AI power users

The consumer tiers are Core at $7.99 a month and Premium at $19.99. Both include the Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus and WhatsApp Plus perks Meta introduced in March, which cost $3.99, $3.99 and $2.99 a month on their own. The main selling point is more AI usage. Subscribers can use Muse Image and Muse Video to generate pictures and videos, edit Instagram Stories with the AI-powered Restyle feature, and use voice effects and creative tools more often. Premium offers more usage than Core. Meta declined to share exact limits because they can vary by “country, surface and system conditions.”

Plans for businesses and creators

Meta One also adds four business tiers: Essential (from $14.99 a month), Advanced (from $49.99), Expert (from $149) and Max (from $499). Benefits, pricing and availability may vary by region, app and account.

  • Essential includes tools to manage a business or creator presence, expanded access to the Meta Business Agent for answering customers, a verified badge and channel on the WhatsApp Business App, and impersonation detection.
  • Advanced adds scheduling Stories up to 30 days ahead, links in organic posts and Reels, exportable analytics, deeper audience insights, team-member access, more linked devices, more broadcast credits and more Business Agent responses.
  • Expert and Max offer the most feature access and Business Agent capacity.

Essential and Advanced subscribers also get an enhanced profile showing their website, locations and reviews, a bold Follow button on Reels, and automatic follow invitations to people who engage with their content. Meta says it will add more features and agent skills for marketing, business operations, content creation and optimization. It will also soon add Edits Plus, with more cloud storage and more use of the Edits AI assistant.

The revenue case

Meta’s earlier app subscriptions are already bringing in money. Appfigures estimates Instagram’s worldwide daily revenue averaged $1.2 million in the week of Sept. 9, up 475% from the week before, and Facebook’s reached $528,000, up 143%. BNP Paribas forecasts the subscription push will add $13.5 billion in revenue by 2028. Truist estimates it could add $20 billion by 2030. For marketers, the business tiers matter more than the consumer ones. Features like organic links, scheduling, analytics and AI customer-service capacity that were once free or unavailable now come at a price.
