Mellody Hobson and George Lucas welcomed a baby girl via surrogate on August 9. Everest Hobson Lucas is the first child for Hobson and the fourth for Lucas, who is dad to adopted children Amanda, 32, Katie, 25, and Jett, 20.
Hobson is the head of Ariel Investments and is a chairwoman at Dreamworks Animation, and has been with Lucas for six years. They married in late June at Skywalker Ranch in a large celebration which was attended by several celebrities; the reception included performances by Van Morrison and Janelle Monae.
âIt was a gathering of people who have known George and Mellody for a very long time. It was an extraordinary day filled with so much love,â Lucas spokeswoman Lynne Hale said. âTo have Bill Moyers who has such a long history with George officiate the ceremony and Bill Bradleyâwho has known Mellody since she was 17âwalk her down the aisle touched everyoneâs heart.â
The happy couple aren’t the only ones to use a surrogate to conceive recently; Jimmy Fallon and his wife Nancy Juvonen did the same when they had trouble conceiving on their own, but kept the news a total secret from friends and family until the baby was born. They welcomed daughter Winnie Rose earlier this month.
âWe said, âWeâre not going to tell anybody.â Itâd be just more fun if itâs just private between me and my wife. And then we get to introduce her to everybody,â Fallon said.
