Melissa Rivers has issued a statement regarding the recent death of her mother, comedian Joan Rivers, saying that the family won’t comment on her death any further now that the autopsy results have been released.
Rivers passed away on September 4 after a routine throat procedure, during which she stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest. Although she was revived and put into a medically-induced coma, the actress and comedian was unable to recover, and now a report that includes the medical examiner’s findings has been released to the public.
“The classification of a death as a therapeutic complication means that the death resulted from a predictable complication of medical therapy, during laryngoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with propofol sedation for evaluation of voice changes and gastroesophageal reflux disease,” the report said.
In response to NYC's Medical examiner's report, we continue to be saddened by our tragic loss. No further comment at this time.

An investigation was launched into the events surrounding Rivers’ death, and stories have come to light about Dr. Gwen Korovin–who was only authorized to observe the procedure but has been accused of taking part in an unplanned biopsy on Rivers–and a possible lawsuit instigated by Melissa Rivers.
Korovin has denied taking part in a procedure and the claims that she took a “selfie” with the star while she was under anesthesia.
