Lunar eclipse 2015 is upon us. While there have been thousands of lunar eclipses just within the history of man, to say nothing of the history of the planet and its moon, this lunar eclipse is seen as special.
Lunar eclipse 2015 has the distinction of being what is called by some a “blood moon.” All this means is that, from certain observations spots on earth, the light reaching the earth from the moon will be refracted in the atmosphere in such a way that it will appear reddish.
There have been plenty of such “blood moons” before. But this one also has the added distinction of landing on Easter Sunday. As you might imagine, this has some people stirred up a bit.
While some Christians see this a non-event, no more significant than any other lunar eclipse — cool-looking but non-influential — others see it as a sign from God that something is about to hit the fan.
The Old Testament prophet Joel told the people of Israel:
“The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.” Joel 2:31
Jesus told his disciples:
“…There will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars…Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” Luke 21:25a, 28
Is the lunar eclipse of 2015 a sign in the moon, especially one that turns the “moon into blood”? Might the end of the world be at hand?
Some do believe that there is “something” significant that will happen. They believe that the upcoming “blood moon” is a sign that things are afoot in the Holy Land and in God’s plan for man.
John Hagee’s book Four Blood Moons: Something Is About to Change outlines his ideas on how these astronomical events relate to events you see in the news here on earth.
“They will be a world shaking event… The heavens are God’s billboard, and when something big is about to happen He gives planet earth a signal that something significant is about to happen. Pay attention! NASA said these four blood moons are coming. God has said through Joel and St. Peter, Listen!”
“The coming four blood moons will be the eighth time this has happened since 1 AD. They mean nothing as far as the Bible is concerned… When these four blood moons come and go, Hagee will change his view and keep right on preaching to his faithful undiscerning crowd.”
