Lou Ferrigno recently sat down with I Am Rogue managing editor Jami Philbrick to talk about his upcoming role in The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power. But in that conversation, you know a comic fan would have to ask a few questions about The Hulk.
Ferrigno famously played The Hulk with actor Bill Bixby as David Banner in the television series The Incredible Hulk from 1978 to 1982. Ferrigno was more recently called upon to voice the roars of The Hulk for the first Avengers film.
Ferrigno revealed his connection to the beastly character.
"I know how The Hulk thinks and feels. I'm glad they let me do the voice in the last Avengers because -- you can't compare CGI to the human Hulk, but with the better quality of CGI also with the voice, then The Hulk started to be believable. In the last Avengers, The Hulk was the best I've seen it. And also, he saved the day."
Ferrigno said that his deep understanding of the character of The Hulk served him well when it came time to record the growls and roars of the biggest Avenger.
"It's not easy to do, because at the time, when I did the voice, I have not seen the scene. So I had to improvise according to how The Hulk would be thinking. Be creative, with just a blank screen and two microphones in front of me. Then, when I saw the final product, I was excited. Because whenever they have a voiceover for a film like The Avengers, contractually you don't know anything about the scenes. So I had to improvise."
Ferrigno did reveal that he has not yet recorded voice for the next Avengers film because they have not yet contacted him.
I wonder how The Hulk feels about that.
