Loretta Lynn Surprises CMAs Audience

Loretta Lynn has been an icon in the country music world for several decades, and to have her appear onstage at a major event is a huge deal. That’s why viewers were as excited as the audience at the CMAs on Wednesday night, when Lynn walked into the spotlight alongside Kacey Musgraves.

Musgraves started the set on a throwback set, decorated to look like a barnyard, and began singing “You’re Lookin’ At Country”. After a few moments, however, she introduced the “Queen Of Country” and Lynn walked out to thunderous applause, wearing a sparkly full-length gown. The duo knocked the song out of the park, harmonizing perfectly over the twang of the guitars.

The song was a hit for Lynn in 1971, just one year before she became the first female to win Entertainer of the Year at the CMAs.

The CMAs appearance was during a break from her Coal Miner’s Daughter Tour, which is scheduled to run through May of 2015. The legendary singer has been receiving rave reviews for her recent shows, particularly an October gig she played at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Although she reportedly played several songs from her 2013 album 12 Stories, she also threw in some older hits as well, much to the delight of the audience. And though the 82-year old is as vibrant and sassy as ever, she did take a moment to rest her back during the long set, saying, “It hurts a little, and I thought since y’all were sitting down, I’d join you.”
