Lindsey Vonn has been recovering from a drastic knee injury since a crash during the super-G race in Austria last year led to her being airlifted off the mountain. Now, she says she thinks she wants to focus on speed racing and may not go back to slolom, something she hasn’t tried since she was injured.

“I don’t know if I’ll do slalom again. It’s difficult starting in the back. But we’ll see. I haven’t skied slalom since my injuries, so I don’t know how it feels yet,” she said.

Vonn has had a string of injuries since the crash last February, including a ruptured ligament and a sprained MCL after racing downhill in Val d’Isere last December. A second surgery slowed her down a bit, but not for long. And after months of training, she says she finally feels healthy again.

“I’m in a much different position this year than I was last year. I have a healthy knee finally. So I’m looking forward to the races this weekend,” she said. “I put the focus on speed because, as I’ve said, I had very little training and I feel more and more comfortable, more and more aggressive with each run.”

Vonn will compete in World Cup events this weekend which include the downhill and super-G.

“It’s a process, coming back from two years of injury takes a bit of time,” she said recently.
