Lindsay Vonn came in first at a World Cup downhill race at Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada on Saturday, marking her first win in nearly two years.

Vonn told the press at the finish line, “It really couldn’t be a better day.”

While she appeared to hold back in a Friday race, Vonn was back in form Saturday, after a long recovery from a knee surgery that forced her to sit out from the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Confident in the strength of her right knee, Vonn aggressively traversed the course, finishing in 1 minute, 50.48 seconds, winning her 15th career victory at Lake Louise.

Vonn commented on her win, “It’s just finding my rhythm and finding my confidence. I’m finally back to where I feel confident and I’m pushing the limits. I want more speed. I haven’t had that yet until today.”

In a rare American sweep of the podium, Vonn’s teammates Stacey Cook and Julia Mancuso took second and third place respectively.

Cook remarked, “I’m so excited for Lindsey. It really helps having Lindsey back, and her competitiveness and enthusiasm for the sport. It pushes us. That’s when we thrive is when we push each other.”

Commenting on her current team, Vonn said, “We have a good energy. We all have a great dynamic. Everyone’s excited for this season.”

Vonn expressed her excitement about returning to her vintage form – “My knee feels really good. I don’t think about my knee at all. I don’t ski differently because of it. I’m back to doing what I used to do.”
