On Tuesday, Dina Lohan, mother of actress Lindsay Lohan, entered a guilty plea to drunken driving and speeding in a Long Island, New York, court.
Last September, the 51-year old television personality was arrested and charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated as well as driving her white BMW 77 mph in a 55 mph zone. A breath test showed her more than twice the legal alcohol limit.
After being cleared by emergency personnel after claiming she was injured in the arrest, Lohan was released to a sober third party. She was issued traffic tickets for two DWI offenses and speeding.
Her sentencing will be on June 3, after which she will be expected to attend a drunken driver program, pay $3,000 in fines and fees, and perform 100 hours of community service. In addition, her driver’s license will be revoked and an interlock device (which tests breath alcohol level before the car can be started) will be installed in her vehicle.
Her lawyer, Mark Heller, seemed pleased with the result.
“Considering this is the first day of Passover, we were very pleased to receive an offer which would resolve her criminal case in Nassau County with a commitment of no jail, no probation, and that afforded her the opportunity to resume her driving privileges shortly,” he said. “She felt this was a great beginning for the Holy week and she was happy with that result.”
The Jewish week-long holiday of Passover began on Monday night, April 14.
In the past, there has been much controversy surrounding the elder Lohan female including scrutiny for making her youngest daughter, Ali, the star of her reality television program, Living Lohan.
In 2008, CNN’s Anderson Cooper joked about the reality show on Live with Regis and Kelly, saying that Lohan looked like a 60-year old and that he “can’t believe I’m wasting a minute of my life watching these horrific people.”
Lohan later responded, calling him “cruel” and having “bad karma.”
But, along with being an attention seeker, Lohan has also been accused about lying about her past career as a Radio City Rockette. After inquiry, a spokeswoman for Radio City Music Hall said that after much searching, there is no record of Dina Lohan (or Donata Sullivan, her maiden name) ever being a Rockette.
“It’s like claiming to have a degree from Harvard when you don’t. It’s a big deal to be a Rockette,” a source said.
Along with the Rockette facade, Lohan claimed to have acted in commercials and on Broadway. These claims, too, proved to be false.
“Look in SAG [the Screen Actors Guild]. Look in AFTRA [American Federation of Televison & Radio Artists]. Dina isn’t a member,” said a family source. “She never did a Broadway show. She never did ads.”
With all the other lies, perhaps the 5-foot 11-inch blonde isn’t even Jewish after all.
