We’ve known that Rovio has a new game in the pipeline for over a month – ever since CEO Mikael Hed dropped that little nugget back in May. All he said was that it was called “Amazing Alex,” and it would have nothing to do with birds, pigs, or any sort of angry creatures.
Now, we’re starting to get a better idea of how Rovio’s follow-up to Angry Birds is going to work. They’ve announced it officially on their blog and put up a “teaser” site, complete with a brief description of the game as well as a short promo video and the announcement that it’s “coming soon” to iOS and Android (Window Phones later down the line).
Check out the video below:
If the brief video didn’t give it away, Amazing Alex will be working with some Rube Goldberg-like contraptions. Rovio calls it a “physics puzzle game,” and has this to say about the gameplay:
Meet Amazing Alex! With his boundless imagination, this whiz kid turns everything into adventure! From cleaning his room to battling cardboard robots in his backyard, Alex creates amazing chain reactions to get the job done. Now he has some challenges for you! What’s the most creative solution YOU can create? With 100 challenging levels, there’s a whole world of creations to explore!
Each puzzle will have more than one solution, according to Rovio. The game will also feature a social element in that players can design their own levels using 35 different objects. Those levels can then be shared with friends.
Rovio based Amazing Alex on a game they purchased called Casey’s Contraptions, which they detail here:
We bought a great physics game and reworked it in Rovio’s distinctive style — developing the character and adding more levels, platforms, and our signature look.
Looks like fun. If it’s even half as addicting as Angry Birds, Rovio will probably have another mega-hit on their hands.
