It’s been a year since Leah Remini’s high-profile split from the Church of Scientology.
However, the 44-year-old actress admits that the life change hasn’t been an easy one, reports ABC News.
The famed King of Queens star appeared on Good Morning America to promote her upcoming reality show, Leah Remini: Itâs All Relative.
Remini revealed details about the first episode of the show which recounts a party she threw to thank her family for supporting her decision to leave the controversial church.
âYou look through your phone [and] youâre like, âOh I canât call this person,ââ she said. âBut you know, as we were in that time of loss and grief, still sad we lost our friends, we also have to look at what we do have. We have great family. We have great friends still in our lives. And we should start celebrating what we have, and thatâs why we had the party.â
She went on to share her sentiments of the public response to her decision to walk away from Scientology. Remini revealed that she was “surprised” by the overwhelming response, but she still doesn’t understand why her decision garnered so much attention.
âItâs something youâre raised in,â she said. âYouâre in it, so you donât see what ⊠what do you want to know? I have a lot of friends that ask, âOh, Iâve wanted to ask,â and Iâm like, âWhat do you want to know?â Youâre so in it that you donât really see the fascination.â
The former Exes actress, who was a member of the Church of Scientology for over thirty years, has also voiced her personal beliefs since separating from the church. In July of last year, Remini briefly shared her opinion with People magazine during a charity event.
âI believe that people should be able to question things,â Remini said. Â âI believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct. That for me, thatâs what Iâm about.â
Leah Remini: Itâs All Relative premieres Thursday, July 10 at 10/9c on TLC.
