Lauryn Hill, one of the founding members of the Fugees, was charged on Thursday with not filing or paying her taxes. According to reports, the musician now owes quite a bit of money on the $1.8 million she earned between 2005 and 2007. If she’s found guilty, the singer could face up to a year in prison and a $300,000 fine.

The Wall Street Journal states that Hill is scheduled to go before a U.S. magistrate judge in Newark federal court this June 29th. Presently, the elusive songstress lives in New Jersey with her six children. Since Hill rarely ventures out to perform anymore, most of the money she makes is from song and film royalties. However, according to court papers, the “Sister Act 2” star also own four companies, namely Creations Music Inc., Boogie Tours Inc., L.H. Productions 2001 Inc,. and Studio 22 Inc.

Hill, who has a history of peculiar behavior, recently started performing again after an extended hiatus. In April, she performed a highly-anticipated concert at London’s Indigo2 arena, an event she followed up with a gig at the Highline Ballroom in Manhattan. These events follow the short-lived Fugees reunion tour in 2005, a series of shows that was ultimately cut short.
