Lamar Odom is a long way from being out of the woods with his recovery from a recent accidental overdose. Doctors discovered late this week following a series of brain scans that the former NBA player suffered a series of strokes while in a coma. Those strokes have left Odom with several serious impairments. His abilities to both walk and talk have been impacted.

Khloe Kardashian is by Lamar Odom’s side in the ICU at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where he was transferred via helicopter on Monday. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star vows to stay with Lamar until he is well–and longer. She has essentially put her life on hold–even canceling a scheduled book tour–to stay by his side.

On Wednesday of this week, Khloe Kardashian filed to have her divorce papers withdrawn, meaning she and Lamar Odom will stay married. During some of their conversations in the hopsital, they decided to give their marriage another try.

In addition to the strokes Lamar Odom suffered, his kidneys are failing and he is on dialysis. While much has been made of the fact he emerged from his coma, most don’t realize he is still in very serious condition. Only time will tell if he recovers at all, and if so, if he regains the abilities to walk and talk.

On Thursday, Lamar Odom underwent two surgeries for “chest issues.”

“Lamar is not out of the woods,” a source tells Us Weekly. “I think it’s still really touch and go.”

Khloe Kardashian is the only visitor Lamar Odom is allowed. She is sleeping on a cot in his hospital room.

Hopefully Khloe Kardashian takes time out for rest and a change of scenery. While staying by Lamar Odom’s side is surely commendable, she needs to take care of herself, too.

Lamar Odom clearly has a long road ahead of him–one that might not end the way people hope it ends. Is Khloe up to handling a less than perfect outcome?

Does Khloe understand that Lamar is at risk for even more strokes, and that further damage could leave him unable to communicate–or worse?
