Kristy McNichol and many of her co-stars from The Love Boat were together recently for a much-anticipated cast reunion.

Many of the stars from the popular 70’s and 80’s show went on to careers in TV, movies, and on stage.

However, after a run on Empty Nest, Kristy McNichol left showbiz for good.

During the reunion, McNichol admitted why she made that move.

In addition to having recently been diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder, she says she just wanted to see what else life had to offer.

Kristy McNichol said, “I was on the big stage between ages 8 and 30.”

She added, “I left show business for a variety of reasons, but a big one was my interest in learning what else there is in life … This phase of my life is so good. My home life is happy and serene.”

She also said, “I love singing. I also enjoy traveling and seeing the world. One of my favorite stops is Hawaii. I like everything about it and may eventually move there part-time.”

Well, that sounds pretty fantastic. No doubt Kristy McNichol will be joined by her partner of over 20 years, Martie Allen.

Kristy McNichol officially came out back in 2012. She hoped to help and encourage homosexual kids who were bullied for their choice.

In 2012, her publicist told People that Kristy McNichol was “approaching 50” and wanted to “be open about who I am.”

Her publicist, Jeff Ballard, added that she “is very sad about kids being bullied. She hopes that coming out can help kids who need support. She would like to help others who feel different.”

Ballard confirmed that Kristy McNichol is doing great and living a wonderful life with Martie Allen, as well.

“She is very happy and healthy,” said Ballard. “And she enjoys living a very private life.”

Good for her!
