Kristen Bell is no stranger to catchy songs; she is, after all, the voice of Anna in Frozen, the film with the catchiest songs ever performed in any movie ever whether you like it or not. That’s why it’s no surprise that she wanted to do a Christmas song this year, but she didn’t do an old standard; instead, she teamed up with the a cappella group Straight No Chaser to create a holiday tune worthy of our modern times.
The song, “Text Me Merry Christmas”, debuted on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Monday and already has the web buzzing; the YouTube video already has over half a million views.
“This holiday you’ll be far away / And I’ll be all alone / So please remember this December / To fully charge your phone. And… Text me Merry Christmas / Let me know you care / Just a word or two of text from you / Will remind me you’re still there,” Bell sings.
The song reminds us that in this day and age–when communication is instant and easy–we shouldn’t forget the ones we love during the holiday season, even if the greeting is riddled with emojis and grammatical errors.
