Last week, a photo of a Krispy Kreme doughnut laden with Sloppy Joe filling made rounds across the web, enticing to some adventurous types and revolting to those who like to keep their glaze away from their ground beef. Today, the company wants to make it clear that they had nothing to do with the concoction.

The sandwich was actually invented by Charlie Boghosian, who debuted it at the San Diego State Fair on Friday, which just happened to be National Doughnut Day. Boghosian is known for his deep-fried innovations, such as twinkies, bacon wrapped pickles, and Kool-Aid. However genius his foods may be, though, Krispy Kreme says they can’t take credit for this one.

“Contrary to recent media and online reports, Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation has not partnered with a chef Charlie Boghosian of Chicken Charlie’s to produce a Sloppy Joe sandwich,” Krispy Kreme spokesman Brian Little said.

Of course, sandwiches made with glazed doughnut as the bun aren’t a new thing; at least one ballpark serves a cheeseburger on the sweet treat.
