Some people might not think that working for a living was part of Kim Kardashian’s upbringing. Her father was a high-profile attorney who worked on O.J. Simpson’s famous defense team. And to watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians now, especially seeing the antics of Lord Disick, it might be tough to believe that hard work is part of the Kardashian ethos.
Kim Kardashian says you’d be wrong. Apparently, her parents did not hand her things.
“I saved up for this Dolce & Gabbana dress I really wanted,” she told the Evening Standard, “or like in high school these Prada shoes that my parents wouldn’t buy me. And I remember they were $400, and I had to save for the entire year to get them … We didn’t get anything [from her parents], we had to get a job if we wanted it. So I was working in a clothing store and I would save and save.”
In fact, Kim says she wants to pass that ethic on to her daughter, North West.
“I was saying that earlier to my friends, ‘I wonder what [North’s] first job is gonna be’. And they were like, ‘What? She’s gonna have a job?’ and I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? Of course she is’. She will have to work for what she wants… She loves fashion. Maybe she’ll be a designer. Who knows? It’s too early to tell.”
Kim says she is a strict mother, with a parenting style different from her sister Kourtney.
“I am a strict mother,” she told the Daily Mail. “I’m really fun and playful, but I’m really strict on nap time, and sleeping in her own crib… [M]aybe on weekends, [North will] come and sleep in the bed with us. But … I’m not crazy strict.
“Like Kourtney’s style is where her kids sleep in bed with her, so especially with the third baby coming – they’re going to need a bigger bed or they’re going to need some other rules.”
All of the Kardashian/Jenner girls are working in some capacity, either modeling or opening their own clothing boutiques.
