Khloe Kardashian is getting support from her boyfriend James Harden during Lamar Odom’s near-death experience and subsequent hospitalization.

So what is Harden doing to lend that support?

He’s staying away.

“He is so nice and being as supportive as humanly possible given the situation,” a source close to the Keeping Up With the Kardashians family tells People magazine. “Lamar essentially has zero consistent family other than the Kardashians, and James understands that. The last thing he would want to do would be to add more stress to her plate.”

Lamar Odom came out of his coma on Friday after nearly dying. He accidentally overdosed while staying at a brothel in Nevada.

Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom are still legally married, meaning Khloe had power-of-attorney for all of his medical decisions while he was unconscious. The two signed divorce papers this summer, but the courts are backed up. It could be three or more months until their divorce is deemed final.

Khloe Kardashian began dating James Harden in June. The Houston Astros guard is well liked by her family members, but Lamar Odom has long been family. Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Kim kardashian West, and even Rob Kardashian–who hardly ever goes anywhere–traveled to Las Vegas with Khloe Kardashian to be by Lamar’s side.

“He never had any intention of going to Vegas. He supports her of course, but understands she needs space and to be with Lamar,” the source says of Harden.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom following his brush with death. He has a long way to go before he’s completely out of the woods and doctors still don’t know the full extent of the damage he suffered.

Khloe Kardashian has vowed to stay by Lamar Odom’s side until he is well.

Will James Harden hang around that long? It could be months from now before Lamar is well again.
