It looks like “they” finally got the best of TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau.

On Tuesday, Trudeau was found guilty of criminal contempt. Trudeau was accused of giving false information in many of his ads and best-selling diet books, most notably The Weight Loss Cure They Don’t Want You to Know About. In 2004 he had been barred by a judge from making any false claims.

Obviously, he didn’t listen.

His sentence has not yet been made, but Trudeau could spend years in prison.

Thomas Kirsch, Trudeau’s lawyer, said prosecutors did not provide enough information to prove their case, stating only two witnesses were brought in. Kirsch also claimed the prosecution in no way proved that Trudeau intentionally made false statements during his late-night infomercials.

Nothing during the trial seemed to phase Kirsch. He was cool as a cucumber while the government attorney in Chicago accused him of constantly lying during his infomercials. The 50-year-old Trudeau didn’t even flinch when the jurors entered the courtroom with their verdict, and showed no emotion once his guilty verdict was read.

In the infomercials for The Weight Loss Cure They Don’t Want You to Know About, Trudeau claimed those that followed his diet could reach a point where they could eat whatever they wanted without ever gaining weight. (Who in the world actually believed that could be possible?!)

Claims made in the book were not what the trial was about, it was more Trudeau’s outrageous claims during his infomercials to get people to buy his book. The book itself claimed you could lose weight by sticking to a 500 calorie a day diet and taking certain prescription hormones.

Trudeau has been involved in many legal troubles since the late 90s involving his false accusations of things “they” don’t want you to know about when it comes to weight loss, health cures and debt cures,

Prior to Trudeau’s criminal contempt trial, he was reportedly put in custody in a Chicago jail for failing to pay a deceptive marketing sanction. Trudeau said he couldn’t pay the sanction because he couldn’t afford it, but the judge in that case didn’t believe him. Many federal officials believe Trudeau has put money in offshore accounts to keep the government from finding it.
