Kevin Costner and his band Modern West performed on Sunday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum for a fundraiser that supports veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The event, held in the Reagan Library’s Air Force One Pavilion, featured comedian Adam Carolla as the emcee.

In addition to Costner and his band entertaining, the event featured an auction. Items up for grab included a basketball signed by Michael Jordan, a jersey signed by Los Angeles Galaxy team members and a football signed by Quinton Aaron, Sandra Bullock’s costar in the hit film The Blindside.

Speaker Ken Robinson talked of the impact of both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and he told the crowd that there are presently 7000 homeless war veterans living in Los Angeles alone. Banter between Adam Carolla and Robinson became terse after Robinson spotted Carolla during a flag ceremony, standing with a glass of wine in his hand.

“I also know how to behave when the flag is presented, and I don’t do it with wine in my hand. I do it with my hand over my heart. It’s not a joke and tonight is serious,” he told the comedian.

Some fans are aware that Kevin Costner is a musician in addition to an actor. For those unfamiliar with that aspect of the handsome actor’s life, you’re in for a treat–just like everyone at the fundraiser on Sunday was. Hopefully Costner’s presence brought lots of people in for the event. It definitely sounds like the homeless situation with Iraq and Afghanistan war vets is far more serious than the average person realizes.

Kevin Costner tweeted about the event at the Reagan Library.

How wonderful that someone with Costner’s celebrity status would take the time out of his busy schedule to benefit U.S. War veterans. Hopefully lots of money was raised for this incredibly worthy and often overlooked cause.
