  • Kerry Kennedy: Ambien Zombie? That’s the headline currently making the rounds, though family and friends say her bizarro behavior has nothing to do with the consumption of drugs. So if prescription medication isn’t to blame, then what caused New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s ex-wife to plow into the side of a tractor-trailer last week? Reckless driving? Poor road conditions? Kennedy cruse? At this point, nobody really seems to know for sure.

Here’s what happened: According to authorities, Kennedy was driving in an unsafe manner through Westchester, New York on Friday when she accidentally collided with a very large truck. Instead of getting out of her vehicle to check on the other person, she hit the gas and fled the scene of the crime. Police located the reckless driver down the road a peice, her head slumped onto the steering wheel of her automobile. She told police that she had no recollection of the incident, claiming that she might have taken Ambien before getting behind the wheel of the car.

“My first impression was that she was really, really drunk, half asleep or very, very intoxicated. She’s very lucky she didn’t kill somebody,” trucker driver Rocco Scuitello explained to Good Morning America. “She woke up a little bit, not a lot, not the way you’d wake up if you’d just hit a 6,000-pound truck. The only thing she wanted to do then was get away, because she floored it and took off.”

Patrick Kennedy, Kerry’s cousin, expressed his concern over the accident, stating that the family was worried about Kerry’s condition. However, in order to spin some damage control over Kennedy’s claim that she might have taken Ambien before her vehicular adventure, the family issued a statement claiming that drugs did not play a role in the collision.

“Kerry Kennedy voluntarily took breathalyzer, blood and urine tests — all of which showed no drugs or alcohol whatsoever in her system. The charges were filed before the test results were available,” the family explained.

As someone who once took Ambien to combat insomnia, I can say for a fact the drug isn’t designed with activity in mind. Anyone who pops one of these pills and gets behind the wheel of a car is only asking for trouble. Since the family is denying Kerry ingested anything that would alter her behavior in any way, shape, or form, it will be curious to see how they explain her antics that night. Is this just the supposed “Kennedy curse” in action once again, or is this alleged Ambien Zombie attempting to hide her habit from the prying eyes of the public?
