Katie Melua had something terrifying living in her ear … a live spider!

The singer told her fans that she had been hearing a shuffling noise in her ear, and when she went to the doctor they confirmed that there was a spider in her ear canal.

So, how did a spider wind up inside Melua’s ear? She believes that it crawled in there when she was using her headphones on a recent flight.

The doctors were able to remove the spider using a micro-vacuum, and allowed her to take it home in a jar.

“The ear specialist said he’d never in his career taken out a live bug before,” Melua’s spokesperson said. “Plenty of dead ones. When it was out, it was pretty tiny.”

“So I had a rustling in my ear for a week and went to the doctor to have it checked out this morning,” Katie captioned a video on her personal Instagram account. “THIS little fella is what they found!”

“Basically I used these old in-ear monitors to block out sound on a flight, little spider must have been in them and crawled inside my ear and stayed there for the week. It was no hassle at all, apart from the occasional shuffling noises…” she captioned a photo of her ear buds.

“Though the thing looked TERRIFYING up-close on the doctor’s camera, once he took him out (using a micro Hoover) it was pretty small, and now its in this little test tube, alive and seemingly fine.”

According to her spokesperson, Katie later released the spider after returning home.

“Katie kept it in the test tube and released it in her garden when she got home,” the spokesperson said. “Apart from shuffling and random noises in her ear, the spider was no bother for the entire week it lived there. She was relieved it was what it was as she was worried she was losing her hearing.”
