Jon and Kate Plus 8 quickly became one of TLC’s most talked about shows when it premiered in 2007. The series lasted seven seasons and ended in 2011. Originally Jon and Kate Plus 8 was supposed to be all about the couple raising their eight children, but the bitter divorce overtook the series’ intent. In 2009, Jon and Kate divorced, but continued to grace headlines for their feud long after that.
When TLC made their announcement about the one hour special, they did not mention Jon. So no one knows if he will appear in it. TLC’s Gosselin family special will focus on the lives of Kate and her eight children (twins Cara and Mady, 13, and sextuplets, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah, and Joel, 9) since the show ended. It’ll show pivotal moments for the family, and some of the main issues the special will address is the children’s growth since they were last seen on television, and Kate’s evolving life and career.
Fans of the original Jon and Kate Plus 8 are unlikely to see Jon on the special because he has repeatedly spoke out against the children appearing on television. However, Jon made his return to reality TV in January when he appeared on VH1’s Couple Therapy with girlfriend Liz Janetta. In one episode of the series, Jon told the other couples about how Kate treats him, including a lawsuit she filed against him. Couple Therapy also depicted a scene of Jon becoming so angry with Kate that he wished her dead.
Besides the TLC special, Kate will return to reality TV-without her eight children-by competing on season 14 of Celebrity Apprentice, which airs in spring.
The TLC special about the Gosselin family will air in June.
