  • Kanye West was sentenced to two years of probation, 24 anger management therapy sessions, and 250 hours of community service after pleading no contest in a battery case.

West was charged with misdemeanor counts of battery and grand theft after he allegedly attacked a paparazzi photographer at an LA airport and stole his camera. The photographer, Daniel Ramos, filed a lawsuit against West and attended the hearing that took place on Monday. Ramos played his role as the victim well saying,

“I was only doing my job, and he broke the law. I believe that if I did what he did to me, I would have been put behind bars.”

West could have faced jail time had he not taken the plea agreement. The altercation between West and Ramos was caught on video by airport cameras and clearly showed that West did indeed get physical with Ramos. The conversation between the two men was also recorded.

“Kanye! Kanye! Talk to me, Kanye!” a photographer shouted outside of a Los Angeles International Airport terminal on the night of July 19, 2013.

“Now come on, Kanye, I don’t want to fight with you.”

“I told you, don’t talk to me, right. You’re trying to get me in trouble so I step off and have to pay you like $250,000.”

West is then seen approaching Ramos and trying to get the camera away from him.

Ramos defended his actions and comments in the video by saying,

“I simply asked him a question, and I didn’t use any vulgar language. In fact, I gave him a compliment and told him that he was cool.”

West has been accused of assaulting paparazzi photographers on a few other occasions, once in 2009 and another earlier this year. The charges were dismissed in the 2008 case and a civil settlement was reached in the most recent case.

Kanye may need to take advantage of his ordered anger management sessions if he wants to avoid future altercations and prison sentences.
