Andy Warhol had a thing for celebrities, especially the ones who went beyond fame and into icon status. Obviously, Marilyn was in there, as was Elvis Presley. Recently, a portrait he did of Farrah Fawcett became the subject of a lawsuit after Fawcett’s longtime love Ryan O’Neal took it from her home despite all her artwork being bequeathed to her alma mater, the University of Texas.
It’s an interesting question to ponder: who would he have wanted to immortalize if he were alive today? Lady Gaga? Miley Cyrus? Certainly, Kim Kardashian is on the list. At least, according to his niece, Monica Warhol.
Warhol says she was commissioned by Kanye to do a special piece just for Kim for the whopping price tag of $30,000, and named off a list of other celebs she’d like to “Warhol-ify”.
“I am picking up where Andy left off, and Kim is the perfect addition to the Warhol legacy. There is no way Andy Warhol would not have painted her. Kim is manufactured gorgeous and is beyond fabulous. How could Andy not have been inspired to paint her like he did Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor?” she said.
Warhol says she’s been commissioned by Mick Jagger and Lenny Kravitz, among other stars, but there are several more she’d like to do.
“I would also like to ‘Warholify’ Rihanna, Snoop, Wiz Khalifa, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry once I finish with Kim!”
