Joey Feek, the country singer who has been battling cervical cancer since 2014, has reportedly told her family she is ready to stop fighting as her body shuts down.
Feek’s husband, Rory, has been keeping fans updated on her condition for months now after she became very ill and broke a lot of hearts when he shared photos of Joey cuddling in her bed with their daughter, Indy. Rory says Joey has been fighting hard to be well enough to see her little girl turn two, which she did in February. Now, however, her body is unable to keep up normal functions.
“Her body is shutting down quickly. The hospice nurse came again this morning and said Joey will most-likely only be with us for a few more days … at the most,” Rory wrote in a blog post on Monday, adding that Joey had gone into a deep sleep after speaking with her parents and siblings. “There were lots of tears as she explained to each one how much she loved them and that she was going to be going home soon. That her time here was done and she was going to go to sleep soon.”
Joey spent much of the last days she felt well making sure her husband and the rest of her family get on okay after she’s gone, and Rory said earlier this year that he sometimes sits with her and takes notes as she relays the things he needs to know.
“More than once, I have found myself beside her bed taking notes as she shares things like when the best time to plant the garden will be this spring, how to prune the fruit trees and to make sure we still set aside a percentage of what we make as a tithe each month,” Rory said.
Joey Feek has been under hospice care at her childhood home in Indiana, where she will be buried in the family plot. Rory says the area is one where her horses graze.
