Jimmy Fallon is having a stellar week so far as the new host of “The Tonight Show”; not that he had anything to prove, really, since we’ve known for a while now that he can pull off a combination of funny and crowd-pleasing. He knows how to keep us interested, how to hit us in the nostalgia, and how to throw out surprises that will quickly go viral (POTUS visit, anyone?)
Speaking of nostalgia and viral hits, on Tuesday night he followed up his Will Smith duet with a barbershop quartet performance of R. Kelly’s “Ignition” which has been making the rounds on the web since it aired. The song has been done a few times by other celebs, but you have to admit, the old-timey sounds of harmony bring a whole new spin.
“It was joyful, ridiculous, and kinda sublime, and if anyone could remind us it’s okay to like a song we like, it’s the ever-affable host, who’s really going for it so far this week,” wrote Spin’s Marc Hogan.
