Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar Go To Marriage Retreat — With Jessa and Ben?!

  • Maybe no one ever told the Duggar clan patriarch and his woman this, but when you go on a “marriage retreat,” you’re supposed to leave the kids at home. That’s part of the point, actually — to get away from things and work on just the two of you.

But when Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar went to the Fort Rock Family Camp and Retreat Center in St. Paul, Arkansas recently, they took along another couple: their daughter Jessa and her husband Ben.

Jim Bob and Michelle posted to their Facebook page:

“We are having a special time at the www.fortrock.org marriage retreat in Saint Paul Arkansas on the edge of the Ozark National Forest! Beautiful place, beautiful people, beautiful truths!”

The Fort Rock retreat center is styled as a family retreat, as Jim Bob and Michelle tout in their testimony on the organization’s website:

We’re the Duggar Family, you might know us from TLC’s hit show, ‘19 Kids & Counting.’ Our family met the Forsyth’s back in 2002 when they had just moved from Texas to Arkansas with the vision of Fort Rock Family Camp. We have literally watched this vision transform into a first class camp and retreat center. If you are looking for a unique family camp experience, Fort Rock’s various events offer not only a fun vacation, but also a safe christian environment for your whole family to enjoy!

More than an Old West adventure, Fort Rock’s camps are designed to draw families closer together, promote teamwork, and realize the value of each family member. If you’re searching for an affordable getaway with your family, we highly recommend Fort Rock!

But this particular outing for Jim Bob and Michelle was specifically described as a “marriage retreat” in their Facebook post. So why take along one of your kids? Another way to ask that is, “Why would Jessa and Ben Seewald go on a marriage retreat with her parents?”

Lots of people have trouble with intrusive in-laws, which has ruined many a vacation. But when you take them with you on a marriage retreat, you’re just asking for trouble.
