Jennifer Garner is pretty sick and tired of the double standard in the world, especially in Hollywood. Specifically, she is frustrated with how Hollywood puts women into gender role boxes.
Back in October Jennifer Garner told attendees at the Elle Women of Hollywood event that she and husband Ben Affleck were doing a press event on the same day for their individual film projects.
She recalled, “[E]very single person who interviewed me, I mean every single one… asked me, ‘How do you balance work and family?’”
Sounds like a reasonable question for someone who has children, especially since her spouse is also in the business and working regularly. Surely they asked Affleck the same thing.
Apparently not. She continued, “As for work-life balance, he said no one asked him about it that day. As a matter of fact, no one had ever asked him about it. And we do share the same family. Isn’t it time to kinda change that conversation?”
Garner is all about empowering her girls to be in control of their lives when they grow up.
She said she wants them, “to be able to kick a guy’s ass! That’s why they’ve been taking karate since they were little!”
Ben Affleck backs his wife up on the topic of raising their girls to handle themselves.
“I think they understand what my wife understands full well, which is that it’s important to be strong and present and powerful and accept nothing less than a man would and in fact, ask for more,” Affleck says.
“That’s part of what I admire about my wife and I know through her example that my children will absorb that.”
Jennifer Garner’s latest project is Danny Collins, starring Al Pacino as an aging pop star.
