Actor Jamie Foxx joined hundreds of demonstrators this weekend in Miami Gardens, Florida, for a rally commemorating the two year anniversary of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin’s death. Martin was gunned down and killed by then neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman. Martin’s parents led the rally on Saturday, calling for peace.

Jamie Foxx challenged young people everywhere to be among the solutions needed for black crime problems.

“The blood that flows through America that is from gun violence is mostly African-American, and yet you young black folk sit here mute and ya’ll don’t say nothing about it,” Foxx said.

Trayvon Martin would have turned 19 this past week. George Zimmerman was found not guilty in his death.

Prior to the rally, Jamie Foxx posted an Instagram photo he took of himself, along with a message about the impending rally.

His accompanying message said, “To ALL of my people in the #Miami area, come join us tomorrow, February 8 at 9 a.m. in a march for peace for our children. Race, gender, age, religion, it doesn’t matter, just come out! It’s not about color, it’s not about race, but about peace for our children. God Bless! #IAmTrayvonMartin – ADDRESS: 3201 NW 185th Street Miami Gardens, FL 33056 #SUPPORT”

In addition, Jamie Foxx retweeted a post one of his followers shared the day before the Trayvon Martin rally.

In addition to marching with the demonstrators Jamie Foxx spoke at a Trayvon Martin remembrance dinner as well. He has been outspoken about the young man’s death, saying it will always be fresh in his mind. Hopefully it will long be fresh in everyone’s mind. Trayvon Martin’s death leaves many people all across the United States with a bevy of unanswered questions. Unfortunately they won’t ever be answered. In the meantime rallies like the one Trayvon’s parents spearheaded and activists like Jamie Foxx can hopefully help prevent more such incidents from taking place.
