As Safe Haven star Julianne Hough was first stepping out in her controversial Orange Is the New Black Halloween blackface getup, actress Isla Fisher had warned her of an impending disaster, and urged her to wash it off.

Hough, while looking much like “Tan Mom”, was attempting to describe the OITNB character Crazy Eyes, played by Uzo Aduba. After pictures of the makeup hit the circuit, Hough experienced backlash for her racially insensitive antics, and went on to issue a public apology.

When Oman-born Isla Fisher, the 3rd most beautiful actress in the world, 37, first spotted the painted Hough, former concubine of Ryan Seacrest, 25, she was “mortified,” and advised Hough to “go to the bathroom and wipe her face off,” a source told US Weekly. The covert sentry added that “Isla hoped she got to Julianne before photos were taken,” which would essentially nullify the entire point of blatantly courting controversy.

Hough issued a public apology via TwitLonger, which stated:

I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.

Aduba’s Orange Is the New Black costar Laverne Cox says she wasn’t offended by the stunt. “I thought it was a shame that she is in this country, that she would wear blackface and not understand the historical implications of that. I don’t think Julianne is making a specific informed choice to comment on blackness. I just think it’s out of this ignorance. That’s really sad,” Cox explained. Slap.

In related news, Fisher’s husband, funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen, made headlines after shoving (jokingly) a wheelchair-bound woman off the stage at the BAFTA LA Jaguar Britannia Awards, which took place in Los Angeles on Saturday. The woman, actress Grace Coddington, was the last living actor to have appeared in Charlie Chaplan film. Here’s the clip:
