  • Ian Watkins of the band Lostprophets was sentenced to 35 years today for admitting to 13 separate offenses where he–along with two female accomplices, performed sex acts on children. His sentencing also includes punishment for the attempted rape of a baby. Watkins’ accomplices received 14 and 16 years behind bars.

During communication the singer had with a fan from jail, he admitted to trying to have sex with the 11-month-old baby boy. Given this kind of depravity, he should never be allowed out of jail again.

Ian Watkins is being further investigated in both Germany and the United States on allegations he may have committed additional acts of sexual and child abuse.

Mr. Justice Royce presided over the Watkins trial and the sentencing in the U.K. He told the three accomplices that they had “plumbed new depths of depravity.”

He then turned to Ian Watkins.

“Those who have appeared in these courts over many years see a large number of horrific cases. This case, however, breaks new ground,” he said. “You, Watkins, achieved fame and success as the lead singer of Lostprophets. You had many fawning fans. That gave you power. You knew you could use that power to induce young female fans to have help satisfy your insatiable lust and take part in the sexual abuse of their own children. Away from the highlights of your public performances lay a dark and sinister side.”

When the Lostprophets singer was sentenced, cheers erupted from the public gallery. Do you think Ian Watkins was aptly sentenced? He’s lucky he’s not in a prison in the United States. He’d be a target for sure. Perhaps sexual predators are treated that way in the U.K. as well. One can only hope.
