A lot of people are aware that the hunky bit of man that is Ryan Gosling made his break in Hollywood by appearing on “The Mickey Mouse Club”, acting, singing, and dancing. Before he earned his rightful place in the heart and loins of women everywhere with “The Notebook”, he was apparently a dancing machine, as evidenced by a video that’s turned up on the wonderful world wide web.
The video is from around 1991, which would make him ten or eleven; In it, he performs in a Mormon talent show with his sister, who is all but shoved from the stage by the charmed audience as Gosling tears through “When A Man Loves A Woman” and shakes his booty to C+C Music Factory’s “Gonna Make You Sweat”.
The brother/sister team obviously have chemistry onstage, but the audience just wants more Ryan (who can blame them?), even with his MC Hammer-style harem pants.
Ryan has famously talked about his childhood in negative terms, saying he didn’t have friends until he was 14 or 15 and was eventually diagnosed with ADHD and homeschooled by his mother after several incidents at school.
He eventually found his stride, however, breaking into show business initially with “The Mickey Mouse Club” and moving on to other kids’ fare like “Are You Afraid Of The Dark” and “Goosebumps”. Now, the 31-year old actor can boast an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nomination for his adult work…a long stretch from the Mormon talent show.
