Google is turning Gemini Live, the voice mode in the Gemini app, into a hands-free way to delegate work. A productivity update connects Live to Spark, Google’s background agent, and adds a spoken Daily Brief, voice control of Gmail and memory through Personal Intelligence. Google says 63% of users talk to Gemini out loud.
What’s new
- Spark by voice: Users can set up multi-step tasks by talking, and Spark carries them out across Google Docs, Sheets, Drive and the web. Google says it handles long-running, scheduled jobs over days or weeks even when you aren’t using the app, such as turning a rambling brain dump into a structured outline in Docs or maintaining a weekly meal plan and grocery list.
- Daily Brief: Asking “What’s my daily brief?” returns a spoken digest of the day’s most important updates from Gmail and Calendar.
- Hands-free inbox: Users can ask about new or urgent email and search, summarize, star, archive or delete messages by voice.
- Personal Intelligence: Live now remembers past conversations and can draw on connected apps such as Gmail, Photos, Search and YouTube to answer questions like where you ate on a past trip.
Google’s pitch is that users shouldn’t have to know which tool they need. In one conversation, Live can brief you on your morning, then pass a follow-up request, such as creating calendar events from invites in your inbox, to Spark to finish in the background.
Availability and access
Spark requires a Google AI Pro subscription or higher, and Daily Brief requires Google AI Plus or higher. To use the new features, users have to connect their apps in Gemini’s Personal Intelligence settings, then tap the Live icon.
That connection step is the part worth thinking through, especially for anyone using a work-adjacent account. Giving a voice agent the ability to archive or delete email and act across Drive is convenient, and it also means reviewing which apps are connected and what Spark is allowed to do on its own.
