  • Google is now involved in a new antitrust probe in India, being led by the Competition Commission of India (CCI). This, of course, adds to the Google’s similar woes in Europe, and here in the U.S. (not mention the privacy debacle Google just settled with the FTC).

Here’s what the announcement from the Commission says (via TechCrunch):

Competition Commission of India (CCI) has launched a probe against Goggle following a complaint by consumer advocacy group, Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) International, against anti-competitive practices adopted by the company.

CCI has received information for contravention of section 4 of the Competition Act, 2002 by the Goggle. This was stated in the Rajya Sabha by Shri R.P.N. Singh, Minister of State in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in reply to a USQ question today.

CCI, which is a Quasi-Judicial Regulatory Body has ordered an investigation in the matter by Director General, CCI.

Last month, it was reported that Google had reached an agreement with the European Commission over the matterms it was concerned with, and it will be interesting to see how things shake out in India as well. It will also be interesting to see how many regions end up probing Google over similar issues.
