Google has acquired Nik Software, makers of Snapseed (among other products).
Snapseed was reportedly named Apple’s iPad app fo the year in 2011, and it gives Google a good Instagram competitor.
Here’s a look at the app:
Nik Software posted the following message to its blog:
We are pleased to announce that Google has acquired Nik Software. For nearly 17 years, we’ve been guided by our motto, “photography first”, as we worked to build world class digital image editing tools. We’ve always aspired to share our passion for photography with everyone, and with Google’s support we hope to be able to help many millions more people create awesome pictures.
We’re incredibly grateful for all of your support and hope you’ll join us on the next phase of our journey as part of Google.
All our best!
The Nik Software Team
It remains to be seen exactly what Google will do with the acquisition, but one can only assume some Google+ integration is one the way, considering the social network’s existing penchant for photography. Perhaps some Google Glass integration is on the way as well.
According to The Verge, Snapseed already has an Android app in the works.
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
